friends & relations is a freshly minted imprint based in peckham, a neighbourhood that has gone from run-down dump to hipster haven in the space of a few short years. the label s first missive comes from its founder and proud peckham-dweller, ali nebraska gibbs, a producer best known for his missives on rush hour and mister saturday night. it s a predictably strong release, with both -stop playing with my heart- and -keep what ya got- showcasing gibbs skill for turning rubbery disco and soul gems into tasty, club-ready house cuts. he s particularly good at teasing out tracks via judicious use of sampled loops, as the deeper and smokier closer, -rat boogie-, deftly proves.

pampa is ecstatic to welcome berlins mike denhert for his label debut. known for an uncompromising, heads-down approach to moving dance floors, whether as a producer, a dj, or in his live incarnation, mike has provided 2 original tracks that are as distinct as they are relentless, possessed of a cerebral quality that belies their tough and stripped back aesthetic. how close to be is a stuttering march of half heard and half imagined discourse, broken by bright synthesis which disappears before it can fully form, with the disorientating sonics held in check only by the rigidity of rhythm running throughout the tracks length. its both surprising and linear. dark and uplifting. me too is also a creature of opposing ideologies. warped moving jazz plays with static motorik patterns, automation curls around repetition, and textures change position throughout. bright keys warp, and swing ebbs in and flows out, all to an eventually breathless but ultimately compelling sum of these parts

for the second and last ep of contemporary spaces remixes, dynamic reflection welcomes yet another batch of talented producers to the label. just like the first remix ep, it is a mix between household names, and up and comers. first off, it’s perc’s interpretation of glide. the uk based artist, who is known for his use of distortion and aggressiveness, takes it down a notch on this occasion. he has made glide into a echoing and glitchy track that doesn t reach its energy peak until the last couple of minutes. matrixxman takes overwith his biohazard mix of future existence, which contains a tensive synth, confined by a filter that gradually opens,and than closes again, retaining your attention at all times. on the bside, shdw and obscure shape reshaped the hunt to provide the first outright dance floor track of the ep. with its thumping kick and epic pads around the breaks, it’s bound to win crowds over in the club. dutch talent ben buitendijk also remixed future existence, in his own distinctive, hypnotic style. a deep, though energetic track with a very mature sound.

most excellent unlimiteds series of 45s celebrating the 45th year of danny krivits career continues with a blast of two heavyweight cuts that, to borrow the parlance of the era from which they came, are bonafide sure shots. wood, brass & steels *funkanova* a jazz-funk masterpiece and loft classic that was liberally sampled in the house world (black science orchestra, terrence parker, the bucketheads), is pared down to its most joyous elements. from the intro, a typical krivit maestros detail of an opening bass slide prefacing hands-in-the-air cascades of iconic horns and keys, to the echo of the last notes, its a perfect edit immaculately tailored for dj usage. the flip delves deeper into new york city dance history with a rough and rugged beat- down of a proto-disco, b-boy classic: boobie knight & the universal ladys * sex*. displaying his usual knack of going straight for the jugular, krivit takes the songs siren-call-to-the-dance floor horn riff as his starting point, peeling off another layer to the floor-shaking bass and drums before bringing it all back to the top with a perfectly placed drum roll that will have flash disciples fiending for doubles. solidifying this blazing double-sider is the fact that neither of these essential cuts has ever appeared in seven-inch form. another most excellent unlimited sure shot!

belgian duo raw district return to the crosstown rebels label with addicted, teaming up with the formidable aquarius heaven again for the label, this time remixed by the infamous doc martin and keinemusiks rampa. an ex reggae dancehall and hip hop singer aquarius heaven brings the colors of the caribbean to addicted. raw districts flamboyant percussions grinds the beats into a track that stretches the limitations of electronic music. rampas remix illustrates the breadth of his studio skills, as founder of a production company teile, he builds soaring synths and strumming piano to elevate the emotional aspect to addicted equipping it for the early hours of the night. doc martin has earned the respect of many over his extensive career for his timeless style that bridge many genres. his remix is a driving, dub-tastic, tribal take on the original that has been going down a storm!

celestial being visited nairobi at the end of august and beginning of september 2012 where he worked with local musicians to create celestial music. kenge kenge brought cow horns and hand made drums and were joined by local folk singers olith, who had come to nairobi through making music with king kong and irungu with his father who has since passed. when asked what the kenge groove sounded like, the receptionist prisca said its like the angel is coming before proceeding to provide additional vocals for all three tracks. nairobi story tells of an ancient village story passed down as a folk song to the present generation. celestial being kept forgetting whether olith was male or female and ending up making a song with him called all woman. this is currently a vinyl only release

produced by paris-based group dasein, pays sans visage is an audiovisual work which takes us at the heart of a nuclear disaster. its ambient/drone oriented soundtrack gets a reinterpretation by four producers bringing their own personal set of influences : deikean s stripped-down techno, cyberlife s deconstructed style, yan kaylen s dreamlike exploration, and nulpar s ambiguous intricate rhythms. a post-apocalyptic sounding ep filled with dark visions and dubbed-out intentions.

stockholm-based imprint swedish brandy productions serves up a sultry four track v/a 12 inch with deep and soulful gems. first out on the a side you get the track * legs lover*. equipped with yamaha rs-7000, moog rouge and roland juno 106, moscow based house and techno purist and producer harry light gives us an uncompromising old school deep house groover with crisp pounding beats, stuttering chords and distinct catchy hooks. harry light has previous releases on labels such as artreform, pro-tez and beef to name a few. the a side ends off with the post-disco sounding killer track “overland & sea” by london based producer and dj dan westlake aka westlake72. dan’s sound borrows liberally from the history of club and dance music, mixing and matching eras to create his own contemporary sonic palette, sighting the early and mid 80 s new york post-disco producers such as darryl payne and paul simpson in particular as key influences. on the flip side soultechnic aka deejaykul delivers the deep and classy track “addicted”. rául navarette, the man behind both aliases, has been holding it down since the late 80 s, releasing music on labels like atjazz record company, z records, peng, del, basic fingers and xtrasolar records, and remixing great artists like opolopo, the rurals, gregory del piero, kenny bobien, monday michiru, monodeluxe, diviniti and many more.

the ep entitled deceased unknown, a seemingly morbid piece of art (art/music) but look a little deeper! this ep sees b12 pick up the pace from their previous firescope release brokenunbroken “coduktor” an organ plays some subtle chords behind this track while beautiful drums skip along on top, to create a sonic backdrop for the very quirky melodies and top lines that constantly evolve and interpolate. a spiritual experience ? “dont look down” 808 and 909 drum and pads always a killer combination add to this an odd malformed bass line which never really reveals quite what it is doing makes for a pretty interesting track. don’t look down where is the question “blue and green capsule” a pumping kick drum sets the pace for this track which builds up using classic b12 style drums. the swirling pads and sliding melodies interlaced make this track reminiscent of “epillion” as featured on the classic b12 album “time tourist” on warp records in 1996. a track you can move your feet as well as your head to “minor decay” brain decay , world decay , urban decay , human decay , music decay, unavoidable decay - a simple straightforward techno track using its simplicity to conjure up feelings of sadness and thoughtfulness as well as joy and hope. a new hope finished in glorious red with black splatter vinyl with exclusive artwork by sarah sparkes

marathons began innocently, as a quick debut ep by an energetic swedish duo we found on soundcloud. within a couple months of chatting with the pair, artur bra&#776,,ndstrom and egil kahlbom, however, we realized our collaboration wasn t going to be simple, so cut and dry, so straightforward, and that s why we find ourselves here, a year after meeting them with a full album, not an in-and-out single, on our hands. what made it complex and intricate, you ask? why d we opt to squeeze eight originals into one long-player, you wonder? well, artur and egil are prolific dudes with fantastic ears and formidable work ethics. a couple of demos quickly sprouted offspring and became four, then six, then ten. rather than fight the arbitrary desire to trim the spread down to a 12inch, we figured we d aim higher and work on a proper album. what we constructed is, in a very classic sense, a long-player. here s that album! it s a sunny, loose, limber, uninhibited boogie through warm disco cuts and wobbly house jams and soulful funk slices. daytime chill-out with a nightclub architecture—or peak hour mayhem with a bright, clearheaded euphoria. marathons swings every which way and suits any mood, so drop that needle and try it on. then repeat, repeat, repeat.

auf departed glories gelingt dem norwegischen electronic-produzenten und ambient-guru geir jenssen alias biosphere eine eindringliche klangatmosphäre, die mit worten nicht zu erklären ist. die entrückten tracks erhalten ihre kontur durch den hintergrund, vor dem das album entstanden ist. das bild des covers ist vor mehr als hundert jahren von dem russischen fotografen sergei prokudin-gorsky, einem pionier der farbfotografie, aufgenommen worden. es zeigt eine armenische frau in einer landschaft, die heute zur türkei gehört. the crystal clear yet haunting atmosphere fascinated me, erklärt biosphere, was ausschlaggebend für die atmosphäre des albums war. hinzu kommt seine recherche während eines aufenthalts in polen, krakau: das psychologische trauma der mittelalterlichen königin bronislawa, die sich mit ein paar nonnen in den bäumen vor den tataren versteckte, bildet die inspirierende grundlage von departed glories. diese elemente und die hinzunahme einiger klangschnipsel ukrainischer und polnischer volksmusik formen den gespenstischen, in mark und bein übergehenden charakter des werkes.

the man behind the track that move d proclaimed -owned the dome at freerotation- , returns with 3 new tracks of deep machine grooves, his first release since 2013 s analogue mapping. -frey d- is built around a synth patch stumbled upon whilst conducting a test on one of bovill s machines with rennouned synth engineer frey smith. opening with playful ,bubbling analogue tones and nostelgic pads, before characteristic basslines, percussion and 303 lines join in, ending on a spaced out contemplative groove . - l.a.t. - is a more stripped down track, which ebbs and flows around subtle builds, tweeks, and delays, perfect for the deeper late night dancefloor. closing the ep is golden burn, the deepest and most dubbed out of the 3 tracks, sprinkled with emotive keys, and underpinned by distinctive bass lines.

disparate producers with complimentary sounds, evil needle and sivey met in an online beat community 6 years ago and to this day have never met in real life. nonetheless, they present their first official ep, ‘constructive interference’, to the world. ‘constructive interference’ was created over the span of 3 years and embodies the unique soundscapes of each producer. evil needle, based in strasbourg france just on the border of germany pulls inspiration from traditional hip hop, neo-soul and trap music while seamlessly weaving in open synths and chunky chord progressions. manchester, uk-based sivey incorporates soulful beat-oriented music with what he calls “emotional highs and lows that are still musically stimulating” adding a beautifully uptempo sensibility.

made of concrete release number 11 sees a joint effort from danny kotz and avi caspi in the form of an incursion into the deep end of spacious techno. reject unfolds steadily, as spatial loops intertwine with piercing zippy synths. the laid back melodic outline is aptly layered with sombre french vocals by laurie eve jasmine de larohe which giving the track a mysterious yet groovy appeal. starting off with a subdued bassline, canopy follows a slowly ascending groove, as progressive synths and wavy hooks further the track into deep tech territory. for the b side, myles sergé swiftly jumps in on the reject remix, stripping down its embellishing elements and shifting focus towards the bassline. what ensues is a compact backdrop where the bass and percussion take the lead, resulting in an intensely danceable reinterpretation of the original. stepping away from the murky ambiance present in previous tracks, karat boosts a slightly more vivacious range of harmonics. energetic synths set a peppy, 70sreminiscing mood, while the melody keeps the cut anchored into present day electronica.

dubtil’s debut for amphia comes in line with the previous 10 releases’ tagline: tailoring new musical perspectives into the multidimensional universe of electronic music. the opener -indoiala- sticks into our brains with its slow decaying voices, pitched down to embrace the devilishly simple percussion. keeping the same eerie approach to his idea of dancefloor oriented loops, dubtil completes side a with -alta schema-, another typical kick-led experience enveloped into a more haunting bassline. bearing a deep house dna yet not losing contact with the dancefloor energy through its breaks pattern, side b’s -repet slap repet- opens the gates to the abstract structure of -contrar-, an apparently chaotic contiguity of weird samples, glued to each other by the minimalistic bassline. jumping from one genre to another, confronting dusty preconcieved ideas just to turn them into a fresh sound: dubtil’s imagination fountain is far from getting dry! we now have the tangible proof.

following on from march s shlømo remix package featuring donato dozzy, bambounou, shlømo and label boss kennedy smith, bright sound s second release of 2016 will new a brand new ep from sweden s andreas tilliander. with his releases on his own repeatle imprint and his tm404 alias s hardware-driven techno featuring on skudge white and kontra-musik, tilliander is among sweden s most versatile talents working right now. his arrival on bright sounds is of a piece with bsrx 004, last year s reissue of fellow swede henrik johansson s 1997 ep as smyglyssna. as with johansson s record, tilliander s stettin libau ep explores slower tempo techno, locating the moments of space and energy in between its rhythmic structures. this search is most keenly observed in knapp ledsyn , with its ever-shifting sonic landscape melting away at various points to reveal its unusual, skeletal beats and hidden melodic details, while the ep title track and nybliven lots apply that approach to what might at first be a traditional dub techno template, yet still offering further small moments of off-beat character. completing the release is a detox operation remix of knapp ledsyn from nonplace records chief burnt friedman, in which the german veteran strips things down to a gentle patter of drums overlaid with suggestive flashes of the original s rich atmospheric elements.

emotional especial and cocktail d amore music enter cahoot-mode once again with a second round of sfire remixes that take proceedings down a deeper, more stripped-back path courtesy of the inimitable timothy j fairplay and willie burns. two artists who need little introduction offer up two remixes each that take the unique original to new dance floor extremes. timothy steps up first with his take on -sfire 2- via differing vocal and instrumental versions. his trademark, echo laden rolling percussion and john carpenter-style key lines take the original synth-pop homage to the dark room. adding arps, a lifting, hedonistic breakdown and the scatter-stepper drums and claps found on the instrumental version and this is pure cotf territory and the better for it. mr willie burns meanwhile has long followed his own path for his take on -sfire 3-, offering one of his deepest remixes to date. thudding kick, brooding pads and dark strings force the vocals to go down, way down for examination. the distorted vocals of remix 1 are countered by remix 2 letting the track shine via a seemingly endless 4/4 beat. psychedelic, trance inducing, pulsating, this is an ever growing mind expanse.
